Fees
Taxes & service charges: Stays in the Maldives are subject to a 10% service charge and Tourism Goods & Services Tax (TGST). For tourism services such as accommodation and most extras, TGST is currently 17% following the nationwide increase effective in 2025. Unless clearly stated as inclusive or net, service charge and TGST are added to your final bill.
Green Tax: The Maldives levies a Green Tax on overnight guests. For guesthouses and small hotels on inhabited islands, the common rate is about USD 6 per person per night for guests aged 2 years and above; children under 2 years are exempt. Green Tax is collected by the property and applies to each payable night of stay.
Optional extras
Transfers: For properties located on local islands, transfers are usually arranged by scheduled speedboat or public ferry from Velana International Airport or Malé. Private speedboat transfers may also be available on request and are charged separately.
Optional activities: Excursions such as snorkeling trips, sandbank visits, fishing, island hopping, diving and other experiences are usually available for an additional charge unless your package specifically includes them.

Traveller Declaration: All international travelers must complete the Maldives Traveller Declaration (IMUGA) online within 96 hours before arrival and departure. A valid passport and onward travel ticket are required.
