Pets
Pets. Pets are not allowed at Velassaru Maldives, and current policies also state that service animals are not accepted. The resort is therefore unable to accommodate cats, dogs or other pets in villas, public areas or transfer boats. Guests who have specific accessibility or assistance‑animal questions are advised to contact the property or their booking partner directly before making travel arrangements to confirm the most up‑to‑date information.
Smoking
Reservation
Reservation guarantee and deposit. Reservations at Velassaru Maldives must usually be guaranteed with a valid credit card at the time of booking, or with a deposit paid via the resort’s booking engine or your travel provider. Depending on the season and rate plan, a deposit or full prepayment may be required a set number of days before arrival. During peak festive periods, some contracts specify a 100% advance deposit by a particular deadline and minimum‑stay requirements.
Payment at the resort. Room charges, transfers, restaurant bills and other incidentals are generally settled at check‑out by credit card or, where permitted, in cash in approved currencies. A temporary authorisation or security deposit may be taken on your card at check‑in to cover estimated charges; the unused balance is released according to your card‑issuer’s procedures after departure.
Policy changes and documentation. Because reservation, deposit and cancellation rules can change over time or differ between channels, the controlling terms for your stay are always those shown with the rate you select at the time of booking, together with any additional conditions set out on your official confirmation or voucher. Guests are strongly advised to review these documents carefully and to consider comprehensive travel insurance that includes cover for cancellations, travel disruptions and medical expenses.
Cancellation
Cancellation and prepayment. Cancellation, amendment and prepayment conditions at Velassaru Maldives vary according to room or villa type, travel dates, length of stay and the rate or package booked. Many flexible rates allow free cancellation up to a stated deadline before arrival, while Advance Purchase, Early Bird and festive‑season offers may require full prepayment and can incur a 100% cancellation fee once booked or from a certain number of days before arrival. Always check the exact policy displayed with your chosen rate on the booking page and on your confirmation documents.
Typical penalty structure. Some wholesale and direct contracts apply increasing cancellation charges as the arrival date approaches (for example, a smaller percentage of the total stay if you cancel more than one to two weeks before arrival, rising to 100% of the stay cost if you cancel very close to arrival or during peak festive dates). For selected festive‑season stays, a 100% advance deposit may be required by a specific cut‑off date, after which cancellations and major amendments can become fully non‑refundable.
No‑show, early departure and changes. If you do not arrive on the scheduled check‑in date, leave earlier than planned or significantly change your stay after the free‑cancellation period has passed, no‑show or early‑departure charges may apply in line with the terms of your booked rate. Some promotional offers do not permit date, name or room‑type changes once confirmed. For precise conditions, please refer to your reservation confirmation or contact Velassaru or your travel provider.
Children and extra beds
Children. Children of any age are welcome at Velassaru Maldives. The resort is popular with couples and families, but there is no dedicated kids’ club on the island. Some room types, especially those over the water, have terraces or decks that may not be suitable for very young children; guests travelling with children should request a room category appropriate for their family’s needs.
Cots and extra beds. According to the resort’s contracted child and extra‑bed policy, infants from 0–1 years can usually stay free of charge when using a baby cot on request, while children from 2–11 years may use an extra bed for a nightly supplement per child. Older children and adults (12 years and above) using an extra bed are charged a higher nightly supplement. Only one extra bed or one baby cot is typically allowed per room or villa, and all cots and extra beds are subject to confirmation and availability. Supplements for cots and extra beds are not included in the room rate and are paid separately at the resort.
Family notes. Certain over‑water categories are not recommended for children below around 12 years old for safety reasons. Guests should always check the maximum occupancy, age limits and extra‑person supplements for their chosen room type and travel dates on the booking page or with their travel consultant before finalising a reservation.
Card accepted
American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and UnionPay credit and debit cards are accepted; cash in major currencies (for example USD) may also be accepted at the resort according to local regulations and booking terms.American Express, Master Card, Union Pay, Visa
Special check-in instructions
Speedboat transfer required. Velassaru Maldives can only be reached by resort‑arranged speedboat from Velana International Airport in Malé. The journey takes around 25 minutes each way. Privately owned boats are not permitted in the resort lagoon, and all guests must use the official transfer services organised by the property or its authorised partners.
Pre‑arrival details. Guests are requested to share their international flight details with the resort at least 72 hours before arrival so that roundtrip speedboat transfers can be scheduled and seats confirmed. Before you arrive, the resort or booking partner will usually send an email with updated arrival and check‑in instructions. On landing in Malé, Velassaru staff or appointed representatives will meet you, assist with speedboat check‑in and escort you to the transfer jetty, where front‑desk staff will greet you on arrival at the island.
Check‑in formalities. Standard check‑in time is from 14:00, and check‑out is by 12:00 noon. Early check‑in and late check‑out are subject to request, availability and additional charges. A valid passport and a credit card or cash deposit are required at check‑in to guarantee incidentals, taxes, transfers and any festive or compulsory supplements that may apply for certain travel periods.
Important information
Fees
A mandatory tourism green tax of around USD 12.00 per person, per night is charged at Velassaru Maldives in line with Maldivian regulations and is payable in addition to the villa rate, with children under 2 years generally exempt from this specific tax.
Room, meal, transfer and activity prices are typically subject to a compulsory 10% service charge plus Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) of around 16–17% depending on your travel dates, so invoices for your stay may show a combined “++” of more than a quarter added to the base price.
Current partner information for dates between around 1 August 2025 and 31 October 2026 shows example return charges for shared speedboat transfers of approximately USD 187 per adult from 13 years and USD 93.50 per child aged roughly 2–12 years, with private speedboat transfers available at around USD 425 per boat, per way, for up to about 6 guests.
These airport speedboat transfers are compulsory for all overnight guests and are normally charged separately from the villa rate, either bundled by your tour operator or paid directly to the resort at check in or check out, so they should always be included when you calculate your total holiday cost.
Guests staying over 24 December (Christmas Eve) and 31 December (New Year’s Eve) are subject to compulsory festive gala dinner supplements, with recent examples indicating approximate charges from about USD 174 per adult and USD 87 per child for Christmas Eve and around USD 316 per adult and USD 157 per child for New Year’s Eve, although the resort confirms exact amounts and age bands for each season.
On some promotional packages, festive dinners, transfers, taxes and service charges may already be bundled into the total price shown online, while on other offers certain surcharges are listed separately as mandatory amounts that will be collected at the property.
All taxes, transfer tariffs and gala supplements are set by the resort and local authorities and may change without prior notice, so the details shown on your final confirmation and pre arrival correspondence should always be treated as the most up to date information.
Optional extras
À la carte lunches and dinners, premium or imported beverages, champagne, special wine selections and bespoke private dining experiences are usually treated as optional extras whenever they fall outside the inclusions of your chosen meal plan.
Spa treatments, massage rituals, medi spa services, yoga or wellness sessions and use of selected spa facilities beyond standard access are charged per treatment or per programme unless they are clearly included in a special offer.
Motorised water sports, scuba diving, snorkelling excursions, dolphin or sunset cruises, private sandbank trips and other curated experiences are priced according to duration, equipment and group size and are added to your account only when used.
Standard shared speedboat transfers are chargeable as described under mandatory fees and guests wishing to upgrade to private speedboat transfers, charter options or transfers at non standard times can usually do so for an additional fee set by the resort.
Extra person surcharges can apply when the number of occupants exceeds the standard occupancy of the selected villa and, although baby cots may be provided free of charge, rollaway beds for older children or extra adults are often subject to nightly supplements that vary by season.
Early check in and late check out, where available, may incur extra charges and remain strictly subject to availability at the time of arrival and departure, even if requested or noted in advance.
Any examples of optional fees or deposits listed on booking websites are for guidance only and may not include every possible charge or tax, so the actual amounts payable at the resort can differ slightly from online sample figures.
You need to know
Extra person charges may apply at Velassaru Maldives and can vary depending on the resort’s policy, villa category, meal plan, travel dates and the ages of additional guests sharing the same accommodation.
Guests are generally required to present a government issued photo ID together with a credit card, debit card or cash deposit at check in and the resort may pre authorise or temporarily hold an amount on the card to cover incidentals during the stay.
The payment card used at the property is normally expected to belong to the lead guest named on the reservation, particularly for bookings made through major online travel agents or tour operators.
Check in time is usually from around 14:00 and check out time is generally by 12:00 noon, with early check in or late check out only offered when occupancy allows and often with an additional fee.
The resort is reached exclusively by speedboat and current partner information notes that guests should share their international flight details at least around 72 hours before arrival so that transfers can be organised within the normal operating window.
Children are welcome on the island but may not always stay free of charge and specific age rules can apply for overwater accommodation, private pools and certain activities, so families should always refer to the child and teen policy attached to their chosen villa and rate.
Special requests such as particular villa locations, bedding configurations, connecting or adjacent villas, early arrivals, late departures or arrangements for celebrations are subject to availability on arrival, cannot be guaranteed and may incur additional charges.
We should mention
Pets and service animals are not allowed at Velassaru Maldives according to current resort and partner policy information and guests planning to travel with animals will need to consider alternative accommodation.
Only registered guests are permitted in guestrooms and many resort facilities and any day visitors or external guests must be arranged directly with the property in advance and may be subject to specific conditions or additional fees.
Reservations are required for massage services and spa treatments and advance booking is strongly recommended for popular time slots, especially during high season and over the festive Christmas and New Year period.
Shared and private speedboat transfers as well as many marine excursions are weather dependent and schedules may be adjusted, delayed or cancelled at short notice in accordance with local safety guidelines and operational requirements.
Supplements for the compulsory Christmas Eve gala dinner and New Year’s Eve gala dinner apply to guests staying over those dates and will either be built into the total package price or listed as separate mandatory charges on your booking.
All details regarding taxes, transfers, gala dinners, payment, cancellation, child policies and other resort rules are based on information supplied by Velassaru Maldives and its booking partners and may change without prior notice, so the terms shown on your own confirmation should always take precedence.
