Fees
Taxes & service charges: Stays in the Maldives are normally subject to a 10% service charge and Tourism Goods & Services Tax (TGST). TGST for tourism-sector services increased to 17% from 1 July 2025, so unless your rate is clearly shown as net or tax-inclusive, service charge and TGST may be added to the final bill.
Green Tax: For hotels and guesthouses on inhabited islands with 50 rooms or fewer, the Maldives Green Tax is generally USD 6 per person per night from 1 January 2025. Children under 2 years old are exempt. This charge is usually collected by the property and applies to each payable night of stay.
Optional extras
Transfers: For local-island stays, transfers are usually arranged by scheduled speedboat, public ferry, or a private speedboat on request. Exact timings and prices depend on your international flight, sea conditions and the island route, and are normally confirmed after booking.

Check-in / check-out: Unless your confirmation states otherwise, standard check-in is usually from 14:00 and check-out is usually by 12:00 noon. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
Traveller Declaration: All international travellers must complete the Maldives Traveller Declaration (IMUGA) within 96 hours before their arrival flight. A valid passport and proof of onward travel are required for entry.
Payments: Smaller hotels and guesthouses may accept USD cash and sometimes credit cards, but card acceptance can vary and bank or handling fees may apply. A deposit may also be requested at check-in for incidentals, depending on the property’s house rules.
