Children and minors must have their own passport to enter the Maldives. If you are arriving from or through a country where yellow fever requirements apply, you may also need a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.

The IMUGA Traveller Declaration

The Traveller Declaration is a required online form for arrivals. It must be submitted within 96 hours before your flight time, and there are no fees to submit it through IMUGA. The form asks for personal details, travel information, and accommodation details.

This is one area where travelers should be careful. The declaration is a self-submitted form and is free, so there is no need to pay a third party just to complete it.

Customs and Arrival Basics

For most visitors, the arrival process is simple: immigration, baggage collection, and then transfer to Malé, Hulhumalé, or your resort transfer desk. It is also worth remembering that some items are restricted at entry. Maldives Customs states that pork and pork products are prohibited for import without prior approval, and tourist guidance also warns travelers not to bring liquor or alcoholic products into the country in personal luggage.

That is one reason it is best to travel light and keep your arrival paperwork, accommodation details, and onward transfer information easy to access. It makes the first part of the trip much smoother.

It is worth completing IMUGA early within the allowed window rather than leaving it to the last minute. Keep a copy of your accommodation booking, return flight, and transfer details handy, especially if you are heading straight to a resort after landing.
