Fees
Taxes & service charges: Stays in the Maldives are subject to a 10% service charge and Tourism Goods & Services Tax (TGST). For tourism services such as accommodation and most extras, TGST is currently 17% following the nationwide increase effective in 2025. Unless clearly stated as inclusive or net, service charge and TGST are added to your final bill.
Green Tax: The Maldives levies a Green Tax on overnight guests. For guesthouses and city hotels on inhabited islands, the standard rate is generally USD 6 per person per night for guests aged 2 years and above; children under 2 years are exempt. Green Tax is collected by the property and applies to each payable night.
Optional extras
Optional transfers: If the property is on a local island, transfers are usually by scheduled speedboat or public ferry. Private speedboat transfers may be available on request and are charged separately. Transfer timings and costs depend on your arrival flight and sea conditions.
Optional activities: Excursions such as snorkeling trips, sandbank visits, diving, fishing and island tours are typically chargeable unless your rate explicitly includes them. Other common paid extras include laundry, special meals and airport meet-and-greet services.
