Fees
Taxes & service charges: Stays in the Maldives are subject to a 10% service charge and Tourism Goods & Services Tax (TGST). For tourism services such as accommodation and most extras, TGST is currently 17% following the nationwide increase effective in 2025. Unless explicitly stated as inclusive, service charge and TGST are added to your final bill.
Green Tax: The Maldives levies a Green Tax on overnight guests. For tourist guesthouses and city hotels, the current rate is generally USD 6 per person per night for guests aged 2 years and above; children under 2 years are exempt. Green Tax is collected by the property at check-out and applies to each payable night of stay.
Optional extras
Optional extras: Additional charges may apply for airport transfers (speedboat or public ferry where applicable), excursions, diving or snorkeling trips, motorised water sports, special dinners, in-room dining, laundry, and other personalised services. Any service not clearly stated as included in your confirmed rate will normally be charged as an extra by the property.
Transfers: For properties located on local islands, transfers are usually arranged by scheduled speedboat or public ferry. Exact timings and costs depend on your arrival flight and are confirmed after booking. Private transfers, where available, are charged separately.

Check-in / check-out: Standard check-in is typically from 14:00 and check-out by 12:00 noon. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
Arrival requirements: All international travelers must complete the Maldives Traveller Declaration (IMUGA) online within 96 hours before arrival. A valid passport and proof of onward travel are required for entry.
Payments: Most city hotels and guesthouses accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and sometimes American Express) and USD cash. A credit card or cash deposit may be required at check-in for incidental charges.
